Vilnius:

A DHL cargo plane crashed into a residential building near Vilnius Airport while attempting to land. The Boeing 737, which had departed from Leipzig, Germany, was en route to Lithuania’s capital, facing freezing temperatures upon arrival.

After the crash, a fire erupted on the aircraft. Firefighters managed to control the blaze, but two people were severely injured and taken to the hospital. One of the injured individuals later succumbed to their injuries, while the other remains in critical condition. It is unclear whether the casualties were part of the aircraft crew or residents of the damaged building.

At this stage, the cause of the crash remains undetermined, but adverse weather conditions are suspected to be a contributing factor. Experts have noted that the Boeing 737, which is 31 years old, is considered an aging airframe, although its use for cargo flights is not unusual.

Efforts to contact the airline company for further details have not been successful.
